Mission
OUT OF AFRICA… INTO MALTA…

…is our mission project among the thousands of refugees and other immigrants from
across Africa who are now in Malta. Many are economic migrants – but many more,
including women and children, have fled for their lives, and cannot return
home.

We offer practical help – English language classes at our church
twice a week (Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.00pm); coolboxes and fans to relieve
stifling summer conditions in the cabins of the refugee centres (many are old
shipping containers); quilts, blankets, and children’s clothing in the cold and
damp of Malta’s winter months.

But the longer-term need is to help these families re-establish
their lives. MALTA MICROFINANCE www.maltamicrofinance.com – is our
micro-loan scheme, working with Malta’s banking, finance and social service
sectors to help stabilise family and community groups. And we are working with the International
Association for Refugees (IAFR)
to develop, in partnership, a new
centre for refugee work in our church crypt.

OUT OF AFRICA… INTO MALTA has grown in the last three years into a major mission
project. It is now a Church of Scotland Guild Partner Project, and churches
from as far afield as Bermuda and Sri Lanka are supporting us in this
work. Your prayers and practical support
would be really valued. You can read all about it here:

HIV/AIDS IN ZAMBIA…

We also directly support a Maltese nun, Sister Catherine Farrugia, who leads mission work among families – particularly children – affected by HIV/AIDS in Tugwashanye, Zambia.

This regularly includes fundraising, and sending practical help such as clothing. It also recently includes financing higher education for some of the young people there, whenever funds allow.

DAR TEREZE SPINELLI…

This is sheltered accommodation in Valletta for vulnerable women and families, and our mission provides practical and financial support.

OUR MISSION COMMITTEE…

…co-ordinates most of this work, and stages a variety of fundraising initiatives ranging from the Tugwashanye Cookbook to entertainment evenings and Pasta Nights.  Our Mission Co-ordinators are Norrie & Marie Alexander: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
